Dinner for One . . .

We tried local grass feed beef steak burgers for the first time, they were amazing!  We met Richard Piper of  Piper Ranch Beef at a Farmer's Market in Scarborough, Maine last week, bought the beef and took the steak burgers home to Massachusetts.  When you have a moment check out Richard's link.  I hear Richard is going to be at the Sunday farmers market in So. Portland, so we'll be able to splurge on delicious steak burgers throughout the winter!

So, I was "home alone" because my husband had to make a special trip to Maine to close the crawl space - we were supposed to be getting a snow storm - in October!  So to be safe he and Duke (our dog) made the trip.  I had to work, so I didn't go.

For dinner I grilled a steak burger, toasted an "everything" bagel, grilled sweet onion, and mushrooms, then topped it off with a slice of gorgonzola cheese and some ketchup.  It was probably the best burger I've ever tasted!

For my beverage, I had a glass of Cupcake Malbec.  If you enjoy red wine, you'll love this smooth Argentine red.  It's become my favorite!  It also goes well with burgers!

Happy Cooking!

=====================================================

In case you're wondering, we did get that snow storm Thursday evening, it was minor.  Then this past Saturday afternoon into Sunday morning we were slammed with a Nor'Easter!  It dropped 6-8 inches of snow in my town, some areas received 24 inches of snow!  There was no Trick-O-Treating!  Our town looks like a war zone!  We were fortunate, we only went without power for 31 hrs.  All my siblings are running generators or wood stoves, except one, she has heat!  Most of my town is still without power - it's going to be at least another 3 days for them!

  3. Yes, grass fed beef is very good and steak burgers are a real treat.
I just picked up my new chest freezer tonight to accommodate 1/2 a beef (locally raised and grass fed).

  5. Grass feed beef is so tasty. I would probably pass on the Gorgonzola, but the caramelized would be divine. And, I like your choice of wine. Stay warm!

  7. I'm so sorry that you got hit so hard with that rotten storm. Everyone is raving about how long it's taking the power to come back on. As one radio talk show host said, "It wasn't like this in the Blizzard of '78!" What do you suppose is going on?

On a cheerier note, your hamburger for one looks delicious!

We got slammed with LOTS of snow but guess what? No power outages, thanks to the Lord.

Gosh, never heard of that cupcake wine. Where do you buy it? Does the supermarket that carries wine have it? Just curious.

Take care. Hope all is well now. Susan

  11. Cupcake wine sounds rather sweet, but that's probably just the name, or you wouldn't have matched it with a burger, right?
Some people here say that we can expect the snow (probably without much of the storm) in about 2 1/2 weeks in our part of the planet. Well, I hope not! I can't remember when we last had a power outtage. Must be more than 20 years ago.

As for your burger ... true inspiration that Gorgonzola and everything bagel! Talk about a spicy gooey medley for that beef! Oh, Amercans and their cheeseburgers, huh?

  26. I'd never thought about cattle farming in Maine. Thanks for the link to their site - I'd never heard of that breed before. As we drove around, we were near their place during our trip in May.

  28. That surprise snow storm walloped so many communities in the NE! We were fortunate not to have too much accumulation and few downed tree limbs or loss of power. It may be a very long winter..lol!

The sandwich and the wine sound very appetizing!

  30. Did you know that once upon a time there was a cafe in downtown NY near Pearl St that was an everything on a bagel place? My husband and I would go in there and have a bagel burger and on occasion I would actually have lox and cream cheese on a bagel. I am also a big fan of Malbec...my latest favorite! Your bagel dinner looks delicious.

  31. I'm so surprised to hear that your burgers were that good. Psychologically, I feel better eating GF beef, but it's drier and tougher than grain fed beef.
