Delicious Autumn, in Poetry . . .

I cannot endure to waste anything as
precious as autumn sunshine by
staying in the house. So I spend almost
all the daylight hours in the open air.
~Nathaniel Hawthorne

Spades take up leaves
No better than spoons,
And bags full of leaves
Are light as balloons.
I make a great noise
Of rustling all day
Like rabbit and deer
Running away.
~Robert Frost

Autumn, the year's last, loveliest smile.
~William Cullen Bryant

All-cheering Plenty, with her flowing horn,
Led yellow Autumn, wreath'd with nodding corn.
~Robert Burns

Youth is like spring, an over praised season more
remarkable for biting winds than genial breezes.
Autumn is the mellower season, and what we lose in
flowers we more than gain in fruits.
~Samuel Butler

  15. I love this time of year in the States. I miss it so much! I used to love seeing the pumpkin patches and stoops around the NYC streets with the Fall decorations. Care to share a real, tradional pumpkin pie recipe for poor old me in the UK? Using scooped out pumpkin rather than the jarred stuff? Keep these fantastic posts coming. x
