My favorite cook . . . Julia!

To me, she was charming! I grew up watching Julia on PBS television, and I remember at a young age being so impressed with her cooking skills! The photo of her on the left was taken well after she had established her cooking reputation.

Have you ever tried to talk and teach while cooking - it's not easy, and she was the first, and she was entertaining. She is the woman that paved the way and made it possible for Martha, Rachel, Ina, Nigella, Giada and Sandra, to name a few - we won't even mention the gentlemen!

Below are some of my personal cookbooks that I enjoy reading like a novel, yes, it's nutty, I know, but I also really enjoy cooking from them! I take great pleasure in selecting recipes for company, I'll read them several times over before I begin to cook, especially if it's a complicated recipe. I hope you enjoy my tribute to my heroine! Julia Child! I've also added some of her famous quotes, enjoy! Bon Appetit!!

My most prized cookbook. She signed this cookbook, and one I purchased as a graduation gift for one of my girlfriends, when I told Julia I was giving it as a graduation give, she smiled at me and said "that's so nice deary, I hope she enjoys it." I was tongue tied, I didn't know what to say, here, this cooking icon was thanking me!

"Find something you're passionate about and keep
tremendously interested in it." - Julia Child

Some of my favorites on my kitchen counter, they are kept on my book case in my kitchen

"In department stores, so much kitchen equipment is bought indiscriminately by people who just come in for men's underwear." - Julia Child

Here they are on the bookcase in my kitchen
next to the rooster pitchers!

"It's fun to get together and have something good
to eat at least once a day. That's what human life
is all about -- enjoying things." - Julia Child

Here they are up close. I did receive volume I & II for Christmas this past year!

"The only real stumbling block is fear of failure.
In cooking you've got to have a "What the hell?"
attitude." - Julia Child

Lastly, please read "My Life In France" written by Julia's nephew, after a series of interviews, it's a hilariously funny story of Julia and Paul, it's truly laugh out loud funny!

xoxo

P.S. I'm planning a blog "Give Away" when I reach 50 people!

Years ago my mom and i stood in line FOREVER to have her sign a cookbook at a book signing...we waited so long..the line was so long in fact that you couldn't even see her at first..but as we got closer and closer...i saw her..there she was...JULIA CHILD..i could not beleive my eyes..my mom turned and looked at me and said, "Kary, your face is bright red". i was just so excited to see her..i think i was shaking...if the house was on fire i would grab teddy, my kittys...and that book !!!!

    loved this today...my FAVORITE subject...thanks...

    sending love,
    kary and teddy

  4. Awwwwww, that was a nice post! I loved Julia Child, too. As a matter of fact, after I saw the movie, "Jules and Julia," where Jules blogged all the way through, I wanted to learn MORE about blogging. I didn't even know blogland EXISTED. Shortly thereafter, I took a three part blogging course at a library and the rest is history. My blog will be ONE YEAR OLD in October! I'm SOOOOOO excited.

Thanks so much for visiting. Please come back often and I'll come to visit you, too. You have a great blog...lots of yummy things! Susan

  9. Hi, thanks for finding my blog :) I happen to live on the East Coast as well but in Canada with an ocean view!

Well I have to say I love Julia, I've never tried any of re recipes though but I remember her on tv, dropping stuff and showing what really happens in the kitchen. Not like you see on tv today, she was live, if it went on the floor, she picked it up and kept right on teaching :)

Welcome to blogging, hey you're getting close to 50 followers!

  10. How fun! I just joined so you are up to 45!
That was such a good graduation gift and a great memory of Julia! I used to watch her on PBS as well. The only cooks I can remember from back then were her and Graham Kerr.

  16. It's very nice to meet someone who loves Julia as much as I do. I learned my knife skills from the black and white drawings in Mastering the Art of French Cooking. I love all of her quotes you've sprinkled about.

There's a lovely book about her written by her assistant that I think you would thoroughly enjoy. It's Backstage with Julia. You get some "behind the scenes" look at what she was like to work with (and for).

Thank you for your nice comments on my blog. It's very nice to meet you. We have a lot in common.

  18. Great post! It seems so silly to get tongue tied around a celebrity. I wonder how many cookbooks the poor woman signed throughout her life.

  19. I'll comment here just to say how much I enjoyed your post and how fun and exciting it must've been to chat with Julia Child.

My hubby has joined me and is giving that apple pie quite the look. He is pretty intrigued by the pastry leaves and has suggested that perhaps this year I'll actually bake him an apple pie. Somehow I missed last year entirely.
