Magical Monday ~ Garden Renovation

Don't you think Monday's should be magical?  I do, so I thought I'd show you a few photos from our seaside garden renovation.  This area was rife with bamboo & weeds.

What we did.  We had a cedar fence installed - the chain link just wasn't doing it!  We bought some granite curbing and dug trenches and sunk it, some of that stuff is down pretty deep and very heavy to move!

Along the back we planted a white Rose of Sharon in the middle and then planted Little Lamb Hydrangea's on each side of it.  In front of the Rose of Sharon are white peony's.  I love my white garden.

Our lots are tiny, only 40 feet wide by 100 feet deep!  Here you can see the little granite bird baths flanking the back garden wall, and the solar lighting, which is awesome!

Then we planted the side garden with some herbs, and perennials.  The white fence to the right is my brothers yard.  He has a small stone wall and patio, give me grass any day!  It's cooler!  The only advantage is it doesn't have to be cut!

We added a granite bird bath, a lighthouse bird house and a little cedar trellis.

  2. It looks lovely Mary! It will look great next year too when all the plants are established, and looks so neat now. Must be very satisfying for you seeing it transformed by your hard work.

Agreed about the advantages and disadvantages of patio v. grass. Ideally, you have both in one garden :-)

    1. Hi Cathy, don't get me wrong, the stonework is beautiful, and he paid a fortune for it, and low maintenance, but I just really like my grass. I would consider doing a small patio - but not the entire yard. Thank you for the visit.

  6. It looks fantastic! Love that edging...a great way to keep the lawn from encroaching on the garden. How pretty it must look at night... Big job well done!

    1. Hi Vee, thank you. I think it took us 2 eight hour days! I love the edging because I can push the lawn more alright along the top of it! Thank you for the visit.

    1. Hi Larry, thank you very much! The bamboo still sneaks through here and there, it manages to get through the cracks in the landscape cloth. The neighbor on the other side of the fence does not keep up with the bamboo and every now and then I get some coming up on the front side of the fence! Overall, not too bad though! Thank you for the visit.

  8. What a lovely garden! My grandmother had Rose of Sharon, but I don't have one here. I need to add it. It sounds like you will enjoy many peaceful moments in this garden.

    1. Hi Julie, so nice of you to visit! I love my little white garden! And it does look beautiful at night especially with the up-lighting from the solar lights that we put in. Hmm, maybe there's a future plate with a white bunny rabbit nibbling in the garden, or snipping herbs for a stew! Thank you for visiting!

It will be nice to have the cedar fence, and keep the weeds at bay.

    Have a happy day :)

  13. I really like the texture and graining on that fence, I don't think I've ever seen one similar. These garden beds will grow beautifully, I expect that sedum on the edge will become a huge bush in no time!

    1. Hi Jeri, the fence is cedar and we're letting it age naturally, it should turn a beautiful silver gray. I expect the sedum to flourish in no time,,then I can divide it! Thank you for the visit!

  14. It's hard work laying in the edging isn't it ??? I love the idea of your white garden too! Those white peonies are so aromatic when they're in bloom! Isn't it fun to transform the space and look forward to how things will fill in? Kudos to you!

    1. Hi Susan, it's back-breaking work! Especially because the curbing was so thick! We were like Egyptians trying to move it! We had levers, fulcrums, a come-along & an umbrella for shade! LOL. Do you think you'll plant a white garden? Thank you for the visit!!

  15. Looks very nice! I'm with you all the way with white flowers! They perk the others up and are a great contrast with all the green. Kind of funny with the bamboo, we definitely don't have that problem. Have a fun weekend!
