Devestation in Massachusetts

A tornado beginning to form.

I have lived in Massachusetts my entire life and never have I seen such devastation from a storm.  Our entire state was under a tornado watch for most of the afternoon and early evening.  It was stressful and scary.  We thought we would have to go into our basement.

There were a record 7 tornadoes that struck the state.   Tornadoes in Massachusetts are rare, and sadly the area that was devastated was the western part of the state.  My section of the state was spared. Each time a storm was predicted to pass over us it veered off in another direction only giving us some minor rain, thunder and lightening.  My husbands cousin, an older woman, said she has never sat through such a horrible storm in her entire life!

Sadly there was loss of life and injury.  We keep those families in our thoughts and prayers.  Our Governor acted swiftly and declared a State of Emergency and was able to deploy 1,000 National Guard to assist those in need.

There were hours of this type of lightening and thunder.

Notice the snapped trees.
I am keeping all of my fellow Western Massachusetts blog friends in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. Video came on the Weather Channel as I was reading this and I was surprised. I did't think New England ever got tornadoes, but I thought the same thing about here until recently. Unfortunatly I think we'd better get used to this if the earth stays warmer.

  10. My husband spend the morning in Springfield (where we used to live) and was amazed at how horrible this storm was. We live in Greenfield so were on tornado watch all night practically with our first aid kits ready to head into the basement. I hope the city is able to recover sooner than later but with its current financial situation, I am afraid it will be a long time before things are back to normal.

  13. It's been a CRAZY spring tornado season....Simply CRAZY and my heart goes out to anyone who has sustained losses in the way of life or property.

As of June 1st, it's now also officially Hurricane season and I hate to think what heartbreak it may bring to some. Just sad.

  19. This year weather has been terrible for several states. A tornado went thru about 1/2 mile from us and took a few sheds of the neighbors down and some house damage but hit another town and completely destroyed homes.
